Call for Applications: SHCY Digital Fellow

SOCIETY FOR THE HISTORY OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH - DIGITAL FELLOW

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - POSITION STARTING SEPTEMBER 1, 2021.

The Executive Committee of SHCY has set aside a $4,000 U.S. annual stipend to support a digital fellow and website coordinator who will assist SHCY's Online Editor. This is a renewable position offered to a suitable graduate student. Successful candidates can be located anywhere in the world and should be interested in developing a research trajectory in the interdisciplinary field of childhood and youth studies. They need not be studying with trained historians or even specializing in historical research methods.

The workload of the Digital Fellow is a few hours weekly on average, but it comes in small units (an hour here, 15 minutes there), because the purpose of the position is to help the Editor maintain the Society's social media presence. For the most part, the Fellow will be free from duty during academic holiday periods and the critical research months of June, July, and August.

Successful candidates for the position should possess the capacity to:

- Communicate with and respond to the requests from the SHCY President, JHCY Editor, and SHCY Editor.

- Learn a user interface application (currently we use MURA CMS). This is similar to learning Word or PowerPoint and allows non-technical people to control a website. Coding is not part of the job; www.shcy.org was built and is serviced by Kings University College ITS.

- Post website materials and announcements weekly in coordination with the Editor. SHCY Online Editor solicits, manages, and edits the text, audio, and video for SHCY Features. SHCY Fellow provides copy editing support for the texts (which are brief), constructs the pages, and places the multimedia files on our podcast website and YouTube Channel.

- Monitor SHCY's Twitter feed daily in coordination with the Editor. This constitutes tweeting SHCY announcements and features when they are posted, tweeting relevant H-Net announcements, and scanning SHCY's feed to retweet news relevant for our followers.

To apply send a C.V. to SHCY's Editor, Patrick Ryan at pryan2@uwo.ca
