The Society for the History of Children and Youth (SHCY) is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from prospective hosts for its Biennial Conference in June 2027. Ideally, an EOI will be generated by more than one faculty member from an institution; we are also open to expressions of interest from faculty members at different institutions in geographical proximity to one another.
Each EOI should include information about the following:
1. The proposed location and information about travel (airport, rail, etc.)
2. The proposed venue: facilities for conference sessions, a banquet, and accommodation options for conference participants
3. The individuals involved, their proposed roles, and a description of prior event planning experience
4. Proposed conference dates. The SHCY conference is generally 2.5 days long sometime in the month of June, generally from a Thursday to a Saturday, though specific days of the week are flexible.
5. Possibilities for co-sponsorship by host institution or other possible sponsors. While SHCY meetings are primarily funded via conference registration fees, financial support and in-kind commitments from host institutions and affiliates are an important means of defraying costs.
Please submit this information to SHCY Vice-President Kristine Alexander (kristine.alexander@uleth.ca) and President Nick Syrett (syrett@ku.edu) by April 1, 2025. All EOIs will be discussed by the SHCY Executive Committee, who will then gauge feasibility through a series of follow-up discussions with proposers. Feel free to email the same addresses with questions.
