SHCY calls for nominations or submissions of the best doctoral dissertations on the history of children, childhood, or youth (broadly construed). Eligible dissertations must be defended in 2023 and in English or translated into English.
Submissions will be assessed by a panel of childhood and youth history experts and copyright will be respected.
Nominations must be received electronically by February 28th, 2024
Nominations should include:
1) an electronic copy of the successfully defended doctoral dissertation;
2) a brief (no more than 250 words) explanation of the dissertation’s contribution to the field of children and youth history;
3) a letter of support sent directly to the award committee from the dissertation advisor (or one of the evaluators) attesting to the dissertation’s significance and contribution to the field;
4) the report on the dissertation, if available;
5) proof that the doctoral dissertation has been successfully passed or deposited (please include author, title of dissertation), where the dissertation was successfully defended/deposited, defense date, names of dissertation evaluation committee members).
Nominations should be sent to all three members of the Dissertation Award Committee.
The award consists of $500US and a two-year membership in the SHCY. The winner will be announced in June 2024.
